TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
”I spend 7 days a week with a camera in my hand and I wouldn't have it any other way. My camera and I have been inseparable since I was a yearbook photographer in high school. I am grateful to have been born and raised in Los Angeles county since there are many opportunities for creatives in LA. Currently I am a product photographer at Forever 21 and their sister company Riley Rose. My dream is to see my photos in Vogue someday (speaking it into fruition- it's going to happen).”
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PUSURE PHOTOGRAPHY?
”My mom gifted a point and shoot camera to my sister and I when we were kids, which led us to spend the entire summer playing outside with the camera. We made movies with our cousins, experimented with stop motion and had our neighbors model. We were just two kids running around the neighborhood with our little red camera in tow. We were obsessed with creating images. My sister and I always think fondly of that time, we really tapped into our creative selves and never let it go. My sister is also a photographer and video-maker and she is incredibly talented. To me photography is play and it's fun and it's making new friends and running around and laughing and being fascinated by what the camera can do. I don't like to take it too seriously and I think that's why I love it so fiercely-- it's been such a source of joy in my life. I'll never stop pursuing what makes me happy.”
HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT TGS?
”I found out about TGS when I did a photoshoot with the lovely and gorgeous Alicia! She had so much excitement in her voice when describing how amazing of a community TGS is. I was like 'okay, she is awesome, this TGS-thing must be filled with more awesome people like her.”
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN TGS?
”I was drawn-in by the opportunities for meeting and collaborating with other creatives as well as the "no height, weight or measurement requirements" for the their models because celebrating the many forms of beauty is extremely important to me. Overall, it seemed like such a positive, uplifting and community-oriented group-- exactly what I was looking for as I was beginning to grow as a photographer and transition into adult life after college.”
WHERE YOU DO DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?
”I draw inspiration from Vogue, music videos and the artists I follow on Instagram.”
FAV AESTHETIC, LOOK, OR THEME WHEN SHOOTING?
”I am a huge fan of shooting in direct sunlight, warmer tones and themes that explore my Latino identity. I am not where I want to be as an artist yet and am still trying to figure out my style. Last year my focus was on reaching my career goals, whereas in 2019 I'm focusing more on developing myself as an artist.”
DO YOU HAVE CREATIVE FRIENDS YOU MEET-UP & BRAINSTORM WITH?
”I am grateful to be surrounded by many talented and bold creators daily at work and in my friend groups. I'm surrounded by such good energy right now! Everyone I know is grinding to make their dreams a reality and it's really exciting. I love nerding out with my friends over studio lighting, concepts as well as brainstorming our own attempts at creating amazing work. Special shoutout to Samantha Wimmer, Chris Pearson, Brittany Calvillo, Stella Chyun and my sister, Lauren Bravo, for inspiring me and for always being down to create together.”
MOST INTERESTING STORY REVOLVING AROUND PHOTOGRAPHY?
“Two of the three broken bones I've had in my life have happened with a camera in my hand. I'll do anything to get the shot (even if it means breaking a bone, sorry mom).”
RANDOM STUFF ABOUT YOU
”Some random things about me: I love reading, I'm horrible at responding to text messages and I love memorizing rap lyrics so I can stunt in the club.”
